Covid-19 Update; Jakarta Logs 906 New Cases on October 26

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Health Agency Head of Disease Prevention and Control Unit Dwi Oktavia, reported that there were 906 new confirmed positive cases of Covid-19 in the capital on Monday, October 26, 2020.

The additional cases were recorded from the results of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test and the accumulation of previous unreported data. Dwi said the agency conducted PCR tests on 5,701 people, and 740 of the results turned back positive, while the other 4,961 were negative.

"Of the total 906 cases, 166 were the accumulation of last week's data that has been just reported by two laboratories of private hospitals," said Dwi.

She reiterated that Jakarta has now 11,735 active cases. The patients were being treated at hospitals or conducting self-isolation. The number of active cases drop by 277.

Since the onset of the pandemic in early March 2020, the capital city has had a total of 101,897 infections. Of these total numbers, 87,977 patients have made recoveries, causing the recovery rate to climb to 86.3 percent. Meanwhile, 2,185 patients passed away, causing the death rate to be recorded at 2.1 percent. The national case fatality rate was recorded at 3.4 percent.

Jakarta's Covid-19 confirmed infection rate recorded in the past week was 9.6 percent. The number exceeds the WHO's safe standard of 5 percent. The city has carried out 113,965 PCR tests per one million population. "The total number of PCR tests throughout the last week was 64,407 tests," Dwi said.
