TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The popular tourist destination in Bogor, Puncak is predicted to attract visitors from residents of Jakarta and its vicinity in this week’s ‘long weekend’ holiday as Indonesians will commemorate the birth of the Prophet Muhammad in the ‘Maulid Nabi.’
Bogor Regent Ade Yasin on Saturday last week said he will restrict vehicles entering the Puncak route as an attempt to prevent overcrowding which leads to a higher risk of COVID-19 infection in the region he leads.
He also said that local authorities have been ordered to deny the entry of vehicles entering Puncak, especially if visitation are based on ‘unclear reasons.’
“Their purpose for visiting Puncak must be clear. Those without any clear intentions will be asked to turn back,” said Ade Yasin on Saturday, October 24.
The Bogor Regent believes that method will be effective in controlling the number of local tourists outside the region from visiting, which will make it easier for tour site management to control the crowd in specific areas.
“Most of those entering Puncak are vehicles with B plates [Jakarta license plates]. Maybe they plan to have a breath of fresh air but we don’t want [their holidays] to cause overcrowding,” he said.
