TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Monday reported that the Pangandaran Regency in West Java was hit by a magnitude 4.5 earthquake earlier this morning at 06:49 Western Indonesia Times (WIB).
The earthquake’s epicenter was 95 kilometers southwest of the regency and was detected to be at the depth of 10-kilometers.
This is the second earthquake that hit the region after Sunday, October 25, saw a magnitude 5.5 quake that came from 88 kilometers southwest of Pangandaran, which was felt in numerous neighboring areas such as Sukabumi, Bandung, Tegal and Yogyakarta.
The BMKG reports suggest the string of earthquakes came from subduction activities of the Indo-Australian with the Eurasian plate.
