TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said president Joko “Jokowi” Widodo took a major risk by issuing a non-populist policy such as the omnibus job creation law that has stirred controversy recently.
Moeldoko claimed that the government had to drive the issuance of the omnibus law as it is needed to simplify bureaucracy and push for the ease of doing business.
“The job creation law is what our future needs,” said Moeldoko on October 21. “Let me tell you this, the president has taken a risk in taking a non-populist decision. He may be criticized for it but he prioritizes Indonesia’s future and the need to continue developing.”
He assured that the government will involve members of society that do not agree with the issuance of the law and accommodate their aspirations through the upcoming derivative regulations. The Presidential Chief of Staff also promised to improve the government’s public communication and reflect on the responses due to the omnibus law.
