Govt Wary of Holiday COVID Cluster Ahead of Maulid Nabi Holiday

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government announced that the Maulid Nabi national holiday and the collective leave days on October 28-30 October, 2020, will remain and not be affected by coronavirus restrictions. However, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo warned against the possible emergence another “holiday COVID-19 cluster.”
The President was refering to the collective leave and long weekend holidays that took place in July and the third week of August.
“Reflecting on the past where there were long holidays that increased the number [of COVID-19 infections],” said the President in Monday’s limited meeting. “Which is why we need to discuss the long holidays and the collective leave, and try not to have them affect the number of COVID-19 infections.”
The commemoration of the birthday of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad or Maulid Nabi on October 28 and the national collective leave day on October 30 are overseen in the collective decision of the Religious Affairs Minister, the Manpower Minister, and the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform.
