TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The COVID-19 mitigation task force announced today, October 15, that there has been no report of side effects in COVID-19 vaccine trials experienced by volunteers to date.
The vaccine candidate was developed by state-owned pharmaceutical company Bio Farma in collaboration with the Chinese firm Sinovac Biotech.
“So far, there is no report of side effects felt by volunteers in the vaccine trials,” said the task force spokesperson, Wiku Adisasmito, in a virtual press conference on Thursday, October 15, 2020.
Based on Presidential Decree No. 99 of 2020, the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) is tasked to oversee the clinical trials in order to ensure the safety of the antibody.
“In principle, BPOM supervises the procurement of the vaccines. We ensure that BPOM will evaluate the implementation of the protocol during the trials and that the safety and the effectiveness of the vaccine are achieved,” Wiku added.
Presently, a total of 1,620 volunteers registered for the third stage of the clinical trial of the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine.
