TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Foreign Affairs Ministry denies that there has been information about the lifted ban against the leader of the Islam Defenders Front (FPI), Rizieq Shihab who is currently on self-exile in Saudi Arabia.
“There is no information about that,” said Foreign Affairs Ministry’s acting-spokesperson, Teuku Faizasyah to Tempo on Wednesday, October 14.
He also revealed that the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh is not aware of such information. The Indonesian Ambassador for Saudi Arabia, Agus Maftuh, had also said similar statements.
Rizieq Shihab had previously been rumored to be soon returning to Indonesia after the Islam Defenders Front (FPI) released an official statement that the group claims to have obtained directly from sources in Mecca.
They claim the lengthy negotiation to lift his ban was exclusively between Rizieq Shihab and Saudi Authorities as FPI claims the Indonesian government had not taken any part to help Rizieq return home.
The information from the group states that Rizieq Shihab is still waiting for administrative processes to obtain his exit permit, purchasing flight tickets and has scheduled a date for him to return home.
