Jakarta's Number of Daily COVID-19 Cases Showed Signs of Slow Down

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Governor Anies Baswedan stated that the number of daily active COVID-19 cases in Jakarta began to show signs of slow down, calculated since the end of September until the beginning of October 2020.

Baswedan said that the number of active cases have only increased by 3.81 percent, or 492 cases, compared to the previous increase of 9.08 percent or 1,074 cases.

"In the previous period of September 26 to October 9 2020, there had been more decrease from the conditions 14 days prior, were the number of confirmed cases went up by 22 percent or 15,437 cases, compared to the previous increase of 31 percent or 16,606 cases," Baswedan said here on Sunday.

Furthermore, he explained that the number of deaths on confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Jakarta have also gone down in the last two weeks.

"The decrease was seen from September 24 up until now. The case fatality rate (CFR) in Jakarta has continue to go down as well to 2.2 percent at the moment," he said.

The governor further said that fatality rate had also decreased compared to the predicted figure without strict Large-Scale Social Distancing (PSBB) of up to 28 people per day.

However, in reality, he continued, the current death rate reached 18 people per day.

"However, death must be seen from the absolute number and pressed as low as possible to the amount of 0," he said.

For the number of deaths, there had been 187 cases in the last week, while there were 295 deaths in the previous week.

Governor Baswedan appealed to all levels of the society to continue maintaining efforts to reduce the number of COVID-19 cases, by maintaining discipline in implementing health protocols, in order to stem the chain of the COVID-19 transmission.
