TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto has reportedly obtained a United States visa. The ministry’s spokesperson Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, however, was non-committal to detail the matter.
“Regarding the visit to the United States as questioned by reporters, I cannot update it immediately,” said Dahnil on Thursday, October 8, 2020.
The U.S. previously denied the entry of the former military general due to the latter’s alleged involvement in past human rights violations. Lately, reports said that the prohibition has been lifted and the Gerindra chief patron could visit the country.
Dahnil refused to confirm the issuance of Prabowo’s U.S. visa.
Prabowo Subianto has recently been in frequent contact with the U.S. representatives. In September, he welcomed the visit of James H. Anderson from the Pentagon. He was also in contact with his US counterpart, Mark T Esper.
“Prabowo is committed to further bolster the defense diplomacy with many countries, including the United States, Russia, China, and European countries,” said Dahnil.
