TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Malaysia's Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Zulkifli Mohamad said he tested positive for Covid-19 days after a visit to Sabah, which coincided with the state election campaign last month.
The Malay Mail reported on October 7 that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that the recent spike in Covid-19 infection could be related to the Sabah campaign event, where several politicians did not follow health procedures such as physical distancing and wearing masks.
As a result, Malaysia recorded a new high in infections. As per October 6, Malaysia had 691 new cases and four deaths.
In addition to Zulkifli, other politicians have came out to say they caught the virus after returning from Sabah. Most of them are from the Organisasi Nasional Melayu Bersatu (UMNO).
