TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto with the House of Representatives (DPR) on Wednesday discussed the draft bill on the defense partnership between Indonesia and the Swedish government, which saw the deal being ratified by defense ministers of the two countries in December of 2016.
Prabowo said the Swedish government has certified the agreement that was mentioned in a diplomatic note on October 11, 2017, sent from the Swedish Embassy in Jakarta to the Indonesian foreign affairs ministry, which at the time had not been ratified by the Indoensian government.
“In response, the Indonesian government is committed to ratify the agreement and to soon carry out the agreement,” said Prabowo in the hearing with DPR Commission I members today.
The DPR hearing sees Prabowo Subianto officially handing the defense partnership draft bill between Indonesian and Sweden over to members of the House. He also expressed hope that it would be discussed swiftly as it would open the opportunity for Indonesia to develop its defense industry, intensify defense partnership and establish a firm legal basis for the partnership.
