Police Collect Rp 1.7 Billion from Health Protocol Fines in 15 Days

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National police (Polri) reported that they had collected over Rp1.7 billion worth of fines throughout the ‘Yustisi Operation’ which specifically targets pandemic health protocols held from September 14-28.
“Up to September 28, 2020, the joint team from the Yustisi Operation had fined 27,564 people worth Rp1.733.299 billion,” said Brigadier General Awi Setiyono, Indonesian National Police spokesperson on Tuesday.
The operation is meant to enforce discipline on the established health protocols amidst the growing number of COVID-19 cases recorded nationwide. Meanwhile, money collected from the fines will be deposited to the state.
Police also enforced other forms of sanctions on businesses and apart from administrative sanctions for individuals, violators are also faced with various punishments as an alternative, mainly social punishments.
There were over 1,000 businesses that received sanctions that forced businesses to temporarily close while there were 225,534 social punishments handed to individual health protocols violators. The Yustisi Operation is legally covered under the President’s Instruction No.6/2020 on enforcing health protocols and the prevention and handling of COVID-19.
