Task Force: No One Is Immune to Covid-19

29 September 2020 21:57 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaSpokesperson for the national Covid-19 mitigation task force, Wiku Adisasmito, responded to the recent survey done by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) which revealed that 17 percent of the respondents were confident that it was impossible they could get infected with the virus.

“We lament there is such a public perception that they are immune to Covid-19. We need to underline this again that no one is immune to Covid-19,” said Wiku in a virtual press conference broadcasted via the Presidential Secretariat’s Youtube channel on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.

Wiku reminded the public that anyone can be exposed to coronavirus disease. “Don’t ever think that practicing regular exercise and staying at home will provide immunity. Getting infected with the virus can easily happen from anyone we meet,” he said.

Thus, the government and the task force continued to call on the public to prioritize the health protocols, namely maintaining physical distance, wearing face masks, and washing hands.

“People who are aware of this are also asked to remind others. We cannot work alone. This is the responsibility of all of us,” Wiku stressed.

Previously reported, BPS published its recent survey that 17 percent of the total 90,967 respondents believed they would not be infected with the virus.

The Covid-19 mitigation task force head Doni Monardo deemed the number was high. This meant 45 million people -- if calculated from the percentage of Indonesia’s population, strongly believed they would not get infected.
