TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Pandjaitan, stressed the importance of special certification for domestic healthcare and pharmaceutical products. He argued it will boost the country's economy.
“This will trigger the national industry to produce domestic products which lead to a hike in the use of local pharmaceutical goods, so we will no longer import them,” said Luhut in a written statement on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.
He claimed the government is seriously concerned about the certification to support the use of local products. This is also in line with President Jokowi’s instruction that underlined the development of the pharmaceutical and medical device industry.
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said his office supports the idea of certifying healthcare products. He suggested that the certification, which will use the state budget, should also be valid for other local goods.
The Finance Ministry’s Director-General of Budget, Askolani, added that his side will cooperate with the House of Representatives (DPR) regarding the budget, which could be included in the national economic recovery program.
“We will optimize it in 2021. Finance Minister Sri Mulyani will also support it,” Askolani said.
The certification of products with the local content requirement or TKDN reportedly required Rp163.5 billion. This program will be carried out for 10,000 units.
