Central Java is Red Zone-free during 39th Week of Pandemic: Governor

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo claimed that the province had recorded no red zones or areas with a high risk of COVID-19 transmission during the 39th week of the pandemic.

"We discussed several matters at the meeting this time. The first aspect is the weekly evaluation of COVID-19 transmission. Alhamdulillah, (Thank God), the data is quite good. In the 39th week, our data shows no red zones," he remarked on Monday.

Gradual improvements were recorded in several cities and districts that were earlier classified as red zones, he pointed out.

With the number of COVID-19 cases declining, Semarang City is currently categorized as an orange zone, or an area with a moderate risk of COVID-19 transmission, he revealed.

On the similar lines, other cities and districts that earlier drew attention had then progressively made improvements, he stated.

"However, several districts, including Banyumas, have drawn our attention. Banyumas sees its status rise following a cluster (of COVID-19) at an Islamic boarding school. We have helped to handle it," he stated.

He further highlighted extraordinary events in Central Java in the past couple of weeks, including the dangdung music concert in Tegal City and volley ball contest in Brebes District

"I urge (people) to postpone such events first. The government is currently serious about taking firm steps and also taking legal action against violators," he noted.

Head of the Central Java Provincial Health Office Yulianto Prabowo affirmed that 14 districts and cities in the province are currently categorized as yellow zones, or areas with a low risk of COVID-19 transmission, and 21 districts and cities are classified as orange zones, or areas with a moderate risk of COVID-19 transmission.

Prabowo pointed out that a fortnight back, the province’s six cities and districts were classified as red zones.

The office head highlighted the over 50-percent decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in Central Java currently as compared to two weeks back when the cases of COVID-19 transmission had peaked.
