TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has designated three buildings that are transformed into self-isolation centers for COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms and asymptomatic carriers through the Governor’s Decree No. 979/2020 on the location of government-owned controlled quarantine facilities.
The three buildings are the Jakarta Islamic Center, the Graha Wisata Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), and the Graha Wisata Ragunan. The governor inked the decree on September 22, 2020.
Based on the policy, the costs of medical treatment during the isolation period would be covered by the Jakarta administration or other legal and non-binding financial sources under the regulation.
Previously, Anies said the government was prepping regulations to isolate people diagnosed with COVID-19 at government-owned facilities. “The locations are managed by the government so it will be more effective in breaking the chain of virus transmission,” said Anies on a voice recording published by the city’s public relations on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.
According to the former education minister, not every patient could practice self-isolation at their homes properly. Despite having a large enough living space, they might not necessarily be disciplined and lack the knowledge of health protocols during their individual quarantine.
To date, Anies Baswedan said only COVID-19 patients living in small houses were obliged to conduct self-isolation at government-owned facilities—over concerns about further virus transmission. “Later, all patients will be isolated at government-owned facilities,” he said.
