TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Education and Culture Minister Nadiem Makarim has launched a government subsidy program that distributes internet quotas for teachers and students to further support school activities amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
This internet quota subsidy will be distributed for a four-month period from September to December this year.
“We have listened and answered with introducing the internet quota subsidy not only aimed at students but also teachers. The budget spent amounts to Rp7.2 trillion,” said Nadiem Makarim in on a video conference on Friday, September 25.
Receivers of this government subsidy will include groups that consist of students and teachers of pre-schools, elementary schools, junior high schools, and universities. The internet quotas are separated into two types, the general internet quotas to access effectively anything on the internet and another package exclusively used to access learning webpages and learning apps.
Preschool teachers and students will receive up to 20 gigabytes of internet quotas, elementary school (35 GB), junior high (42 GB), and university (50 GB). The receivers’ mobile numbers will then be verified by mobile phone operators to make sure the subsidy is spread evenly.
