Anies Baswedan Says 74% ICU Beds in Jakarta Occupied by Covid-19 Patients

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan reported on Thursday, September 24, that 514 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds had been filled up by Covid-19 patients in Jakarta.
“Of the total 695 ICU beds, 74 percent is occupied as of September 23,” said Anies in a press release in Jakarta, Thursday, September 24, 2020.
The occupancy rate of isolation rooms, meanwhile, reached 81 percent or 4,812 units as of the same date.
In an effort to reduce the occupancy rate of isolation and ICU beds for patients with the coronavirus disease to below 60 percent, Jakarta would join hands with several hospitals to increase the bed capacity.
Until Wednesday, September 23, 2020, the city administration had conducted 857,863 PCR tests, or 80,588 people per one million population. The testing capacity in Jakarta per week is claimed six times higher than the WHO standard, or one person per 1,000 population.
Anies Baswedan earlier decided to prolong the Large-Scale Social Restriction or PSBB in Jakarta until October 11, 2020, in a bid to control the surge in virus spread during the transitional PSBB period.
The PSBB Volume 2 was extended in consideration of the Covid-19 mortality rate, the availability of isolation beds and ICU beds for patients, and the high positive cases in the capital.
