TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Breakfast is the most important meal of a day as a fuel for the body and brain. A healthy breakfast means balanced nutrition and portion, while having wrong meals and portions may lead to weight gain.
“What makes people overweight is that the energy coming in through eating is more than the expended energy,” said a nutritionist Emilia E Achmadi in an online press conference on Wednesday, September 23, 2020.
A large portion and wrong composition for a morning meal, such as foods containing too much fat, will certainly increase the body’s fat, let alone if the person does not apply a healthy diet; inactive and rarely conduct exercise.
“The human body needs regular food intake. It stores energy for a certain period,” Emilia added.
According to her, regular eating is good for the body to work properly. When the body does not get regular food intake, the blood sugar decreases and so expedites the production of other hormones, causing people to crave high-sugar and high-fat foods.
Weight gain, she went on, is highly caused by irregular eating patterns, having an unbalanced diet, and poor lifestyle.
Thus, the nutritionist asserted that the key to preventing it is to eat regularly in appropriate portions and balanced nutrition. For breakfast, consume high protein foods, for example, eggs and milk. Complex carbohydrates including whole wheat bread and simple carbs such as fruits that are easily absorbed by the body are also great choices for the morning meal.
