KPU Bans Music Concerts in 2020 Pilkada

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The General Election Commission (KPU) has finally banned music concerts and other activities that attract mass gathering during the 2020 Regional Head Elections or Pilkada.
The KPU head Ilham Saputra said that the prohibition was stipulated in the amended regulation on the implementation of the simultaneous regional head elections amid the non-natural disaster of COVID-19, namely in KPU Regulation No. 13 of 2020.
“Article 88C notes that political parties or coalitions of political parties, candidate pairs, campaign teams, and or other parties are prohibited from carrying out other activities as referred to Article 57g,” said Ilham on Thursday, September 24, 2020.
The activities regulated in article 57g are general meetings, cultural activities in the form of art performance, music concerts, sports activities such as healthy walk and/or cycling, competition events, social events including bazaars, blood donations, and commemoration of political party anniversary.
The regulation also contained sanctions for political parties or coalitions of political parties, candidate pairs, campaign teams, and/or other parties violating the rules outlined in Article 88C.
The sanctions include a written warning that will be issued by the regional Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) and discontinuation of campaign activities if the warning is not heeded.
