TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria called on residents in 82 subdistricts to be prepared for the possibility of flooding which will arrive sooner than the prediction in December until March.
According to him, this was caused by changes in weather or anomalies that have often occurred in many countries and also in the capital city.
“There are anomalies in several countries. Some are hit by storm floods. Jakarta flood usually occurs at the end of December, January until March, but there is now acceleration,” said Riza in Jakarta, Tuesday, September 22.
Thus, he asked residents living in areas near Ciliwung River, particularly 82 subdistricts, to stay alert of flash floods.
“We warn people to be prepared. The overflowing of Ciliwung River in 82 subdistricts traversing the river may cause inundation,” the Jakarta Deputy Governor asserted.
Jakartans were also asked to maintain cleanliness and avert from throwing trash into the river in a bid to prevent overflow since the river water can flow smoothly.
“We ask people to help clean sewers or other places so that water can continue to flow into rivers and sea,” said Ahmad Riza Patria.
