President Jokowi Establishes U-20 World Cup Organizing Committee

    TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has officially established a national organizing committee for the U-20 World Cup in 2021 dubbed INAFOC, which involved representatives from across ministries.

    The formation was noted in the Presidential Decree No. 19 of 2020 on the national committee of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2021 and the Presidential Instruction No. 8 of 2020 on the support for organizing the event. Both policies were issued on September 15, 2020.

    “Based on the FIFA Council Meeting in Shanghai on October 24, 2019, Indonesia was selected as the host of the U-20 World Cup in 2021, and thus the issuance of a presidential decree on the national committee is required,” as quoted from the decree accessed via State Secretariat’s website on Friday.

    Article 2(1) notes that INAFOC is tasked to prepare and organize the world-class event that will be held in Jakarta, South Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Bali. INAFOC must report directly to the President.

    Moreover, Article 4 stipulates INAFOC consist of a steering committee and an organizing committee. Coordinating Human Development and Culture Minister Muhadjir Effendy has been appointed as the steering committee head. The organizing committee, meanwhile, is chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali.
