TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Six people in North Jakarta were given punishments for not wearing masks on Thursday, September 17. Five of them were given community sentences to clean up the neighborhood, while one opted to pay the Rp250,000 fine.
The North Jakarta City Government held the Mask Control Operation at Sindang Market in Koja, North Jakarta. The lurah of Koja, Frimelda Novarita, said that the operation is aimed at preventing the emergence of a new cluster of Covid-19.
"The fine and community service are expected to motivate people into wearing masks when they are outside the home," she wrote at the utara.jakarta.go.id website, today.
Frimelda said that similar inspections would be held routinely every day at public facilities.
She added that the Koja ward routinely disseminates the use of masks, washing hands, and maintaining distance in residential areas; collaborating with neighborhood officials, groups and community figures.
