73 Leaders Reprimanded Over Health Protocols Ahead of Regional Elections

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Home Affairs Ministry’s director general of general governance, Bahtiar, said there are 73 regional head leaders - that the Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian reprimanded for health protocol violations - who have now abided by the protocol.
“We strongly reprimanded 73 incumbent regional heads who are running for re-election and alhamdulillah (Praise to God) the warnings were conceded by them,” write Bahtiar in a written statement on Tuesday, September 15.
He explains that the leaders have signed a pact of integrity commanding them to always abide by COVID-19 health protocols ahead of the national simultaneous regional head elections.
“Because what we hope for is that those elected in these 270 regions are leaders that are able to face the COVID-19 pandemic,” he added.
The central government has pushed for the general election commission (KPU) to include current health protocols into an official regulation overseeing the facilities and other aspects of election campaigns.
