Religious Affairs Ministry Condemns Stabbing of Syekh Ali Jaber

14 September 2020 17:03 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Religious Affairs Ministry condemned the stabbing of Saudi-born ulama Syekh Ali Jaber.

"The act is a heinous crime and a disruption to the establishment of da'wah," said the Ministry's Director of Islamic Information, Juraidi, in a written statement on Monday, September 14, 2020.

Juraidi believed that law enforcement officers could handle the case professionally. "I believe the police can investigate this case. The safety or preachers while giving a sermon must be maintained," he added.

The naturalized cleric was stabbed on Sunday afternoon, September 13, 2020, during a da'wah event at Falahudin Mosque, Central Tanjungkarang, Bandar Lampung.

The incident began when the preacher conducts a photo session. However, when they were about to take a photo with the mother and child congregation, suddenly a man broke in and immediately stabbed Syekh Ali Jaber.

Earlier today, the police named the perpetrator Alpin Andria or AA as the suspect. Bandar Lampung Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief Comr. Rezky Maulana confirmed on Monday, September 14, 2020. Rezky said that AA was charged with Article 351 of the Criminal Code on assault.
