TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in a press conference on Monday reminded the national handling of COVID-19 and economic recovery team to intervene in coronavirus cases using localized intervention strategies.
“Many times I have said, implement localized interventions via localized social restrictions in community levels so the handling can be more detailed and focused,” said the president in a limited meeting video conference today.
He argues that the data shows the spread of COVID-19 in each region varies and that the ‘danger levels’ in each region is not evened out, which is why he argues that a generalized strategy would not work.
“Every region needs different treatments. Which is why local-based interventions are essentially needed,” said President Jokowi.
In the meeting, Jokowi ordered the committee to focus on handling eight Indonesian provinces that have recorded the highest number of cases. The regions include Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, South Kalimantan, and Papua.
