DPRD Member Backs PSBB; Prioritizing Health Above Others

10 September 2020 19:48 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) member Andyka. S openly supported the decision taken by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan who has chosen to pull the emergency brake policy in the form of reintroducing the large-scale social restriction (PSBB).

The DPRD member's support came after the coordinating minister for economic affairs Airlangga Hartarto announced that the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) had slumped due to Anies' PSBB announcement.

“Don't quickly blame Jakarta, you can’t do that. This means that he does not follow his leader, the President, who prioritized health above others,” said Andyka as Tempo reached him today, September 10.

He believed the Jakarta governor faced a dilemma between health or economic recovery, however, he is sure that health has been becoming the first priority as the current infection has grown to a worrying rate. The DPRD member called for Airlangga to grasp the regional autonomy concept overseen by the Constitution (UUD).

“The coordinating minister must understand the concept of regional autonomy,” said Andyka.
