Jakarta Sees Extreme Occupancy Rate of Covid-19 Hospital ICU Beds

9 September 2020 07:30 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta saw a spike in ICU bed occupancy rate in 67 Covid-19 referral hospitals since the last announcement made by Covid-19 mitigation task force spokesman Wiku Adisasmito on August 31, 2020.

The city administration via its official Twitter account reported on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, that 77 percent of the total 4,456 isolation beds were occupied for the coronavirus disease patients.

The ICU bed occupancy rate, meanwhile, saw an extreme rate of 83 percent of the total 483 beds as of the same day.

Last week, Wiku announced the bed occupancy in hospital isolation rooms was 69 percent, while the ICU bed occupancy was 77 percent.

“This condition is not ideal,” Wiku said in a press conference via the BNPB Youtube account on Monday, August 31, 2020.

Jakarta administration was also asked to suppress the rate to below 60 percent.

Governor Anies Baswedan said on Tuesday, September 1, that the hospital bed capacity would be increased. “The ideal occupancy rate is below 60 percent. So now we will add more ICU beds and isolation rooms in the hospital,” said Anies in a voice recording given by Jakarta Public Relations Bureau.

Two regional general hospitals, Cengkareng Hospital and Pasar Minggu, have now been set as a special Covid-19 referral hospital.
