TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Well over 41,000 tourists have visited the Kepulauan Seribu or Thousand Islands in August 2020, according to official reports from the island’s tourism and creative economy board, which marks its highest visit compared to the January - July period.
“There were 41,152 tourists arriving on Kepulauan Seribu in August of 2020. This is the highest recorded number since January this year,” said the island’s tourism board Head, Puji Astuti, on September 8.
She claimed the resort islands continue to put forth strict health protocols despite the growth in the visit. “It’s not a race to attract the most tourists as we continue to attract visitors under the principle of safe, secure, and productive [tourism],” said Puji.
According to her, the key attractors for this growth is the string of digital promotions by travel agents. “As time passes, people will visit the Kepulauan Seribu because they know that it is a safe zone, a green zone and we continue to conduct health protocols wherever we are.”
