Jakarta Set New Record Again for Highest One-Day Rise in Covid-19 Cases

3 September 2020 19:31 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe 1,406 new cases reported today, September 3, 2020, is the largest number for a one-day hike in Jakarta. The regional Covid-19 mitigation task force confirmed the figure brings the city’s total tally to 43,709.

The previous record was noted on August 30, 2020, with 1,114 new infections and on September 2, 2020, with 1,053 new cases.

“The total addition of recent cases is 1,406,” said the Jakarta Health Agency’s Head of Disease Prevention and Control Unit, Dwi Oktavia, in a written statement, Thursday, September 3.

Dwi outlined that 270 of them are the accumulation data from the previous day that had been logged by the agency. Besides, 71 cases are Indonesian migrant workers being quarantined at Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital and non-Jakarta residents.

The increase in new cases, Dwi argued, is also attributable to the hike in the testing capacity conducted by the city administration. On September 2, 2020, Jakarta carried out PCR tests on 7,270 people, from previously 4,000-5,000 tests per day.

“This is undeniable that the increase in the PCR testing capacity is in line with the hike in new positive cases. Of the figure, 1,137 people tested positive,” she added.

Dwi mentioned that Jakarta now has 10,032 Covid-19 active cases that are under treatment at hospitals and self-isolation, 32,424 patients have made full recovery, and 1,253 patients succumbed to the disease.
