TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Covid-19 mitigation task force reported that over the past week, the city's average positivity rate was 11.2 percent. The figure increased from the previous week’s rate of 9.8 percent.
“The rate is recorded higher in the last few days,” said Jakarta’s Health Agency Head of Disease Prevention and Control, Dwi Oktavia, in a written statement on Wednesday, September 2.
Since the onset of the pandemic, the capital city’s positivity rate was recorded at 6.5 percent, above the standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) at 5 percent.
Throughout the past month, the rate continued to rise: 5.4 percent as of August 4, 5.9 percent as of August 20, and 6.3 percent as of August 31.
Within a week, Jakarta made records of the highest new daily cases with over a thousand infections in two consecutive days: 1,114 cases on August 30 and 1,029 cases on August 31.
The surge in the new confirmed cases was suspected due to two long weekend holidays of Independence Day on August 17 and Islamic New Year on August 20.
Today, September 2, Jakarta announced 1,029 new Covid-19 positive cases; 202 cases of which were accumulated data that had been just reported to the Health Agency. Thus, the capital city’s total tally reached 42,303 cases with 31,741 recoveries and 1,237 fatalities.
