TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) planned to analyze the transmission pattern of Covid-19 among health workers following the high number of doctors who died of the new coronavirus disease.
“This is important for us to create a measure to protect medical personnel,” said IDI deputy chairman Adib Khumaidi on Wednesday, September 2.
Due to those reasons, Adib said IDI would explore the causes of the death of 100 doctors in the country besides being exposed to Covid-19. This could refer to potential risks in the service and the community, including the possibility of having comorbidities.
Because, Adib explained that based on the data, some of the dead doctors did not directly treat Covid-19 patients. “So these are what we will analyze, its spreading pattern.”
Based on the initial analysis that had been carried out thus far, Adib went on, the death of medical personnel was not necessarily due to the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE).
However, it was related to the standardization of the health service system and regulations during the pandemic. There were also workload problems faced by doctors and medical workers.
“This is also about the working hours and rest hours needed by them. So a good regulation is necessary to manage duty hours,” Adib said.
Adib said the workload of health workers during the pandemic should be managed well, instead of increasing it. Therefore, IDI also planned to calculate the capacity of human resources in a bid to find the best solution.
