TEMPO.CO, JakartaHome Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has again reprimanded regional heads for not complying with the health protocols against Covid-19. After West Muna and Muna Regents, Tito reprimanded Wakatobi Regent Arhawi.

The Ministry’s Director-General for Regional Autonomy, Akmal Malik, said that Tito highlighted the declaration event as a regional head candidate held by Arhawi on August 9, 2020, which attracted the crowds. The agenda was attended by thousands of people.

“This act contradicts the government's efforts in mitigating and breaking the chain of Covid-19 transmission,” Akmal said in a written statement on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.

According to him, the Regional Government Law stipulated that regional heads and their representatives are obliged to comply with all provisions of the legislation. Besides, the Government Regulation on the Large-Scale Social Restrictions or PSBB Article 4 (1c) also asserted a limitation of the establishment of events at public places or facilities.

Given the facts and existing policies, Akmal added, Tito demanded the Southeast Sulawesi Governor impose a sanction to Wakatobi Regent Arhawi in the form of a letter of reprimand.

“Southeast Sulawesi Governor is also asked to report the results to the Home Affairs Minister (Tito Karnavian),” Akmal said.
