TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government was advised to implement partial lockdown in the regions with a high rate of Covid-19 transmission.

Senior Biostatistician, European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Uni Eropa, Bakhtiar Hasan, said based on his study, the countries that succeeded in containing the virus transmission were those that imposed a lockdown.

“If a lockdown is not implemented, the mortality rate would be high,” said Bakhtiar in an online discussion held by Populi Center on Saturday, August 29, 2020.

He argued that the government must be extra cautious in imposing a policy and that the health measures and self-quarantine should be abided by the people.

“Work at home until the vaccine is found,” he underlined.

Bakhtiar said that any government’s policy would affect the economy. Every country, either it imposes a lockdown or not, will experience the same economical impacts.
