TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD said on Thursday, August 27, 2020, that fighting the Covid-19 pandemic must run parallel to the government's efforts to recover the economy.
"We must live with Covid-19 in mind but still continue with our jobs, usual government work," Mahfud MD wrote in his statement on Thursday, August 27, 2020.
Mahfud claims Indonesia is on the verge of entering a recession, which based on existing methodological tendencies, will make an economic recession unavoidable in September or early October 2020.
However, Mahfud MD called for people to not be paranoid as the recession does not equate to crisis and elaborates that recession is when a country in two consecutive quarters sees its economy drops below zero.
He then explained the government's five main programs that will address the issues that arise due to the pandemic which will be made into policies to mitigate the economic impact caused by the pandemic.
