TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several representatives from online news outlets Tempo.co and Tirto.id filed an official police report about the hacking attack against them to the Jakarta Metro Police today, August 25.
Tempo was represented by its chief editor Setri Yasra, accompanied by the Legal Aid Institute for the Press (LBH Pers) director Ade Wahyudin.
“This is also a form of our fights against digital attacks on media and journalists,” said Ade in a press release this morning.
The report was submitted to the Jakarta Police Special Crime Directorate.
News website Tempo.co was hacked in the early hours of Friday, August 21. Its homepage resulted in a 403 Forbidden response and then turned black with a message reading “Stop hoax, don’t lie to Indonesian citizens, return to the correct journalistic ethics that abides by the press council. Don’t base it depending on who pays. Deface by @xdigeeembok.”
Tirto.id was also attacked on the same day. Several of its articles were removed, particularly ones regarding the involvement of BIN and TNI in the Covid-19 cure. There were also efforts to redirect the hyperlinks to Tempo.co.
