Bali Delays Reopening for International Tourists until End of 2020

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s main tourism destination, Bali, initially planned to welcome international tourists starting September 11, 2020, following months-long Covid-19 closure. However, the provincial government decided to postpone the plan given the ongoing pandemic.
Governor Wayan Koster in a press conference said that the God's Island would not open international tourism until the end of the year. “The situation in Indonesia is not yet conducive to allow foreign tourists to visit the country, including Bali,” said Koster as reported by Reuters.
In the meantime, the province would focus on the safe growth of domestic tourism that had been reopened since July 31. Besides, according to Travel and Leisure, Australia banned its people from traveling to the island until 2021.
“Bali cannot fail because it could adversely impact the image of Indonesia including Bali in the eyes of the world, which could prove counterproductive to the recovery of travel,” Koster added.
The international tourism in Bali was shut down in April as the province started to report an increasing number of Covid-19 positive cases.
