AGO Says No Case Files Were Destroyed in Fire

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General's Office or AGO denied rumors that Saturday's fire was an attempt to destroy case files and important documents. The AGO also ensured that all investigations will continue.
"I have said it before, there were no files related to cases in the building [that caught fire]," the Attorney General's Office's head of the legal information center Hari Setiyono said on Monday, August 24.
There have been suspicions that the fire was a deliberate one—an attempt to destroy documents and evidence of the Djoko Tjandra case and corruption at PT Asuransi Jiwasraya.
"I suspect that fire at the Attorney General's office was done on purpose to destroy documents and evidence," lawyer Razman Nasution said in a written statement last week, not long after news of the fire broke.
On Saturday evening, August 22, fire broke at the Main Building of the Attorney General's Office. A total of 65 fire engines were deployed to put out the flames.
The building that caught fire was the office of the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, Planning and Finance Bureau, Development Bureau, Intelligence, and Bureau of Personnel. There were no fatalities in the incident.
