Police Run Crime Scene Procedures at AGO Building to Investigate Fire

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police and the South Jakarta Police Precinct held a joint crime scene investigation at the Attorney General's Office (AGO) building today, August 24. On Saturday night, the building was engulfed in flames.
"The crime scene investigation took place this morning at 09:00," Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said on Monday.
Yusri said the police will investigate what caused the fire that scorched the building, which is one of Indonesia's cultural heritage sites. Crime scene investigators also took witnesses testimonies about the 11-hour long fire.
On Saturday, August 22, Flames engulfed the AGO building. The fire reportedly broke out shortly after 19:00, which, according to witnesses' accounts, was first seen on the sixth floor.
The fire spread wildly and fast that the South Jakarta Fire Brigade sent 43 trucks and hundreds of firefighters to put it out.
Attorney General ST Burhanudin said that all case files, evidence, archives as well as people detained at the building were rescued and evacuated.
