TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tangerang is experiencing significant increases in Covid-19 transmission. The city is also seeing the emergence of new clusters. The spike is a result of the loosened large-scale social restriction, with people resuming their normal activities after months of working from home.
However, Mayor Arief R Wismansyah said that the public is quite disciplined in following health protocols, such as wearing masks.
Another cause for the increasing infection rate is close interaction between people; resulting in new clusters of the new coronavirus. Therefore, Tangerang is now maximizing the enforcement of physical distancing orders.
"A few months ago, we had only one or two new cases per day. Now it can reach more than 10 per day. The data from Jakarta said 36," the mayor said on Wednesday, August 19.
As of August 18, Tangerang City has a total of 156 confirmed cases, more than double compared to the beginning of August when there were only 71 cases. Tangerang also has 143 probable cases/suspects currently in treatment.
