TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The newly formed Indonesian Medical Council (KKI) was criticized by the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) deputy chair Slamet Budiarto who claims there are no IDI representatives in the latest medical council members list.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo previously signed a decree about the medical council’s members. However, Slamet explains the medical practice law and presidential decree on KKI memberships require representatives from profession-based organizations, and associations.
“The [names contained in the] presidential decree are not representatives of seven organizations,” said Slamet on Tuesday.
The president’s decision to ratify decree is met by protests in an open letter signed by IDI, Indonesian Dental Association (PDGI), Association of Indonesian Medical Education Institutions (AIPKI), Association of Indonesian Dental Faculty (AFDOKGI), the Indonesian Academy of Medicine (MKKI), the Indonesian Dental College Council (MKKGI), and the Indonesian Teaching Hospitals Association (ARSPI).
The open letter strongly urges President Jokowi to reconsider postponing the Indonesian Medical Council (KKI) inauguration before the proper procedure is followed.
