TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government of Depok City is banning all types of Independence Day competitions and activities that attract crowds. The policy is taken to prevent further spreading of Covid-19.

The city's administration issued a circular to announce the prohibition.

"In the circular, we included guidance on how to celebrate Independence Day. It is forbidden to hold activities that gather crowds during the Covid-19 pandemic," Depok Mayor Mohammad Idris said on Thursday, August 13.

The circular refers to those issued by the Home Affairs Ministry as well as by the Governor of West Java on the same issue.

"Independence Day celebrations must comply with procedures that have been assigned for the pandemic," Mohammad Idris said.
