TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The PDIP Central Executive Board (DPP) announced that it would officially nominate President Jokowi’s son-in-law, Bobby Nasution, as a candidate for the 2020 regional head election in Medan. Bobby will be paired with a member of the Medan Legislative Council (DPRD) from the Gerindra Party, Aulia Rahman.
“Medan City: Muhammad Bobby Afif Nasution with H. Aulia Rahman,” said the PDIP DPP chairwoman Puan Maharani, announcing 75 regional head candidate pairs via online, Tuesday, August 11.
Bobby joined the virtual announcement from the North Sumatra PDIP Office. He and Aulia donned the party’s red uniform and face masks.
Puan also congratulated Bobby who had just been blessed with a second child. “Congratulations on the birth of your second son,” she said and was replied with thank you from the regional head candidate.
In the 2020 Medan Election, Bobby Nasution will vie with the acting Medan Mayor Akhyar Nasution, who is supported by a coalition of PKS and the Democratic Party.
A party or a coalition is required to have at least 20 percent of the DPRD seats or 10 seats for Medan Election to nominate a candidate pair. With this requirement, the PDIP and Gerindra Party could back their candidates without having to form a coalition.
