TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Health Ministry asserted that until date, there is no country yet able to produce the COVID-19 vaccine.
"Many international and national institutions are striving to develop the cure or antibody for COVID-19. Several vaccine candidates have entered the final stage of a clinical trial," said Slamet as the acting head of the ministry's health research and development agency in a written statement on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.
Slamet underlined that a number of countries including Indonesia joined in the WHO Solidarity Trial in an effort to find stronger and valid clinical proof on the effectiveness and safety of COVID-19 treatment.
The process of the medicine production, he explained, is divided into four stages. It is commenced by finding potential materials or substances through various research processes.
The potential material must pass various testing processes, such as substance activity tests, in vitro and in vivo toxicity tests for the preclinical trial, and phase 1, phase 2, and phase 3 clinical trials. The third stage is the process of distribution permits.
"The fourth stage is the COVID-19 vaccine production by adopting good manufacturing methods (GMP) and the control on the marketing process," Slamet said.
