Djoko Tjandra Arrested, Indonesian Police Thanked Malaysian Police

  • TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Crime Investigation Agency of the National Police finally extracted Djoko Tjandra from Malaysia to Indonesia. The effort was made successfull with the cooperation from the Malaysian Police.

    "On this occasion, we extend our thanks to the Malaysian Police, Datuk Hamid, Datuk Hing, who assisted us in the process of arresting and repatriating Djoko Tjandra," said Chief of the Crime Investigation Agency of the National Police Commissioner General Listyo Sigit Prabowo on Thursday evening, July 30, 2020.

    Djoko was a suspect in the case of the assignment of claim (cessie) of Bank Bali with a total value of IDR 904 billion, which was under the examination of the Attorney General's Office. On September 29, 1999, until August 2000, the Attorney General's Office had detained Djoko. However, the South Jakarta District Court declared Djoko free of charge because the action was not a crime, but a criminal dispute.

    Listyo explained that the Crime Investigation Agency's special team knows that Djoko is in Malaysia. The team immediately send a request to the Malaysia Police, which later followed up the request. 'Together we conduct a search," Listyo said.

    On Thursday afternoon, July 30, 2020, Djoko's whereabouts in Malaysia has been uncovered. However, Listyo did not provide details whether Djoko was arrested by the Malaysian Police or if the arrest involves the team from the Crime Investigation Agency. Listyo had only flown to Malaysia on Thursday afternoon.

    "So in the afternoon, we the Crime Investigation Agency with a special team went to pick [Djoko] up," Listyo stated. After that Djoko was brought to Jakarta.
