TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the national economic recovery task force (Satgas PEN), Budi Gunadi Sadikin, on Wednesday said that the country’s digital economy is not yet able to replace conventional economy as the current health crisis has caused people to fear going outside their homes.
“This has caused economic activities to drastically drop. Physical contacts that are replaced by digital or virtual contacts are yet to reach the levels of economic activities with conventional physical contacts,” said Budi Gunadi in a teleconference from the presidential office on Wednesday, July 29.
He explained that current health programs promoted by the government have become a priority to rebuild the sense of security among people.
“The sooner we build this sense of security, people will eventually leave their houses, conduct physical contacts and spark the national economy again,” Budi argues.
However, Satgas PEN head said that this can only be achieved if people are equally cooperative and disciplined in implementing strict COVID-19 protocols.
