TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Tuesday, July 28, promised to conduct a nationwide COVID-19 mass-vaccination in 2021. He implied that it would be done after the vaccine has completed its final clinical trial phase.
“I believe we will endure these arduous and difficult times. We do hope the economy will recover next year and that the vaccine would be discovered to commence a mass vaccination on every citizen of the country,” said the president in Tuesday’s financial virtual meeting.
As of now, the state-owned pharmaceutical firm Bio Farma together with the Padjadjaran University and the Health Research and Development Agency (Balitbangkes) has entered the third clinical trial phase of the COVID-19 vaccine. They aim to complete the vaccine in January 2021 before it is mass-produced.
This vaccine research is concocted together with China’s Sinovac Biotech.
Bio Farma president director Honesti Basyir said on Tuesday, July 21, that the state-firm is realistically eyeing to produce around 100-250 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine each year, with 40 million doses in initial first-year.
