TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A member of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Finance Commission, S. Andyka, said his side would question the city government’s decision related to the regional loan worth Rp12.5 trillion from state-owned infrastructure financing firm PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI).
“We will call in the executive today and question the goal of the loan,” said Andyka to Tempo on Tuesday, July 28.
Governor Anies Baswedan reportedly signed the proposal of the loan at the Finance Ministry office on Monday, July 27. The capital borrowed a total of Rp12.5 trillion to be distributed to the regional development bank.
The loan was claimed to help recover the city’s economy due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “This is the first time we receive loans from PT SMI. Several sectors will be supported later,” said Anies during the signing as broadcasted on the Finance Ministry’s Youtube channel.
Andyka claimed that the regional government did not involve the DPRD during the deliberation of the loan, lamenting Jakarta’s unilateral move. “That should be discussed together between the executive and the legislators,” he added.
Andyka went on to say that as mandated in the Government Regulation No. 56/2018 on regional loans, legislators must be involved in such a decision, moreover, the loan would be used for the national economic recovery.
