Independence Day; Palace Calls for Flag Raising Starting August 1

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State Secretary Minister Pratikno demanded all state institutions, ministers, and regional heads raise the red-and-white national flag simultaneously for a month, starting August 1 to 30, 2020, to welcome the country’s 75th Independence Day that falls on August 17.
“[We ask all] to raise the red-and-white national flag simultaneously on August 1-20, 2020,” said Pratikno on Sunday, July 26.
Pratikno reminded that the flag-raising ceremony must comply with the predetermined health protocols against COVID-19 transmission. The event funding must also be in line with the existing statutory provisions.
He previously stated that the annual flag-raising ceremony will still be held at the Merdeka Palace yet with limited participants and under the basic health principles in a bid to prevent virus spread.
“The ceremony of (Independence Day) on August 17 will be held in Merdeka Palace. The event will remain solemn with limited participants. All components involved will present, including Paskibraka (flag hoisting team) but in limited numbers as well,” Pratikno said.
Officials who are allowed to attend the event include President Joko Jokowi Widodo as the ceremony inspector, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, the MPR Speaker Bambang Soesatyo as the reader of the Proclamation Text, Religious Affairs Minister Fahcrul Razi, the TNI Commander Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto, and National Police Chief Gen. Idham Azis.
