TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Solo mayoral candidate Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is the eldest son of President Jokowi, claimed Solo residents had never fussed over a political dynasty.
“Every time I conduct blusukan (an impromptu visit), people welcome me with open arms. I know people who are making a fuss over a political dynasty. They've been throwing such issues over and over again,” said Gibran Jokowi in a teleconference on Friday, July 24.
He said every time he met with Solo residents, he often explained about the political dynasty issue, and that the residents had been cognizant of it.
Gibran claimed he had never been rejected by the people in every blusukan he did thus far. “People accept me with open arms,” he added.
According to him, the attempt to enter the political world was aimed at reaching more people with his future policies. To him, being an entrepreneur was not enough as he could only help his employees.
“But if I am in politics, I can help some 500,000 people in Solo alone through my policies,” he remarked.
Gibran Jokowi further argued that the regional head election was a contest, as opposed to a show, as it depended on voters. “If it is a political dynasty, in what form? I am confused, too, when people ask that.”
